Rural Capital Area Adds 5,836 Jobs in February, Unemployment Rises Slightly to 3.5%
CEDAR PARK, Texas ⎯ The unadjusted unemployment rate of the Rural Capital Area of Central Texas ticked up to 3.5 percent in February 2022, a slight increase from the 3.4 percent rate recorded in January, with 5,836 jobs created in February, and unemployment inching up by only 262 claims, according to figures released today by the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). The 3.5 percent unemployment rate in the nine-county Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area (WSRCA) represented 21,228 residents seeking employment, with more than 35,800 full-time jobs still left to be filled across all industries.* The region’s unemployment rate remained below the Texas (4.7 percent)** and national (4.1 percent)** rates, fueled by an employment recovery of 39,846 jobs added across the region since February 2021.
Within the WSRCA counties, Blanco recorded the lowest unemployment rate at 3.1 percent in February, followed by Williamson County at 3.3 percent, and Burnet County at 3.4 percent. Hays County was at 3.5 percent, while Bastrop and Fayette counties were at 3.8 percent. Caldwell and Lee counties came in at 4.0 percent, while Llano County was at 4.5 percent.
