We can’t be cavalier about our water supply

The above map, created by Meteorologist Matt Makens shows how widespread the drought has become and how it is affecting cattle production in the U.S.
According to the Cattleman’s Association, “As of April 1, nearly half of the U.S. cattle herd is in drought-affected areas. Quick stats:Alfalfa Hay Acreage: 48% in drought, Cattle Inventory: 43% in drought, Hay Inventory: 39% in drought.”
A majority of the Western states have a drier than usual outlook for the upcoming spring and summer months. As a result we can anticipate the area of the Western states that is under drought conditions will increase.
